Learn to Build an Outdoor Environment with Unreal Engine 4 Course Description
In this lesson, you will use Unreal Engine 4 to create a game level from scratch. This course is all about level design, lighting and scene rendering. We will be using free packs from the Unreal Marketplace for our levels. There are many topics to cover in this course. First, let's go over some basics of the UI, including where all the windows and assets are located and how to perform their basic functions within the UI.
We will also create a simple terrain from the mesh and use vertex painting on top of it to blend several materials to get a realistic looking forest type land. Then set up all the foliage with the Unreal Foliage Painter where you can set various settings such as scale, position and rotation transformation. Finally, paint all the foliage onto the exterior terrain.
Then we will place the object. Although the process of moving from large to small objects is fairly straightforward, we will discuss the best and most logical locations for placing objects. We will create the whole scene with a few camera angles to get the best possible results in the final screenshots. But of course also make sure the level is playable. When you're all done, you're done by setting up the sunlight, the reflective spheres, and building the lights for the scene where you'll adjust all the lighting settings. We will also use post effects to change the visual appearance of the scene to our liking and make everything look a little more realistic. To round off the course, we cover how to take ready-to-use screenshots for your portfolio.
