After turning pro at the age of 16, tennis prodigy Andre Agassi rose to international fame in 20 years, winning 60 men's singles titles, including eight Grand Slam singles championships. Agassi, the world number one athlete, is the only male athlete to win all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal. He was also a member of three Davis Cup winning teams (1990, 1992 and 1995). On July 9, 2011 Andre was inducted into the 2011 International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Even though his tennis career has taken over the world, Agassi has always been linked to his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1994, at the age of 24, he founded the Andre Agassi Educational Foundation. His early activities included building a Las Vegas shelter for abused and neglected children, creating the Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club, and developing Team Agassi, a tennis program that trains professional players and puts college close by.
For over 20 years, the Foundation has served its mission of focusing on transforming public education. In 2001, the Foundation opened the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, a tuition-free K-12 public charter school in historic West Las Vegas with approximately 1,200 students. Recognized as an exemplary charter school, Agassi Prep graduated from its first senior class in June 2009 with a 100% college acceptance rate, similar to its 2010 and 2011 graduates.
Since the Andre Agassi Education Foundation was founded in 1994, $185 million has been raised for the foundation's mission, including $118 million at a grand slam fundraising event for children. The Children's Grand Slam served as the foundation's primary fundraising vehicle and brought international stars to recognition and fundraising.
After retiring in 2006, Andre Agassi focused more on the foundation and promoting education reform. He also builds a lifestyle business through endorsement relationships, joint ventures and real estate developments. In November 2009, he released his autobiography Open, which reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list and continues to set record sales internationally.
In June 2011, in an effort to expand their impact on education, Andre partnered with Turner Impact Capital for the Turner-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund, an innovative new real estate fund. - Classified charter schools in urban communities across the United States. By the fall of 2015, the fund had developed 70-75 schools and served 35,000 students.
Most recently, Andre launched BILT by Agassi & Reyes, bringing to the public a real-world fitness machine developed by him and his strength and conditioning trainer Gil Reyes. Recognizing the importance of his strength, conditioning and safety using these innovative machines, Andre won eight Grand Slam titles and dominated the tennis world during his long career.
He is married to tennis superstar, philanthropist and entrepreneur Stephanie Graf. The couple live in Las Vegas with their children, Jaden Gil and Jaz Elle.
