Arduino Robotics with the mBot Course Description

This course introduces you to mBot, the world's most familiar educational robotics platform. The mBot is an Arduino-based two-wheeled robot with built-in sensors and actuators and can be programmed using the graphical programming language Scratch.

mBot is also extensible and has many components that you can use to create your own robot artwork.

In this course, we'll show you how to assemble the mBot, discuss additional hardware options, and show you how to program it on a tablet and on a Windows or Mac OS computer.

The main project of the course is programming the mBot to follow a random black line on the floor. In this project, we need to efficiently couple the robot's sensors and actuators so that the robot stays on line while moving as fast as possible.

At first glance, you might think that having a robot follow a line is easy. Not so for robots.

As a programmer, you have to "teach a robot" to do things that are intuitive for humans. You should extract an intuitive understanding of how to follow the line and translate it into code.

The required hardware is the mBot itself and a computer (Windows or Mac OS). The mBot can be purchased directly from the manufacturer Makeblock or your local reseller. You can download the software for free from the Makeblock website.
